Lenormand Card Meanings & Combinations: 7 Snake

As you work with Lenormand cards in your daily draws, you begin to experience patterns in which the cards personally speak to you. This happens with Tarot cards as well, or any other cartomancy system with which you work regularly.

It’s always a good idea to make notations in a personal journal as to what the card combinations mean to you. This helps you build your own cartomancy vocabulary and assists you in becoming a more accomplished card reader.

The Lenormand card, 7 Snake, is an interesting card that has a generally negative meaning.

By itself, it warns you “something is up,” likely in an unpleasant sort of way. With 3 Ship, 1 Rider or 22 Paths7 Snake can symbolize something as mundane as roadblocks or traffic snarls, particularly in a daily draw where the card meanings are of a “lighter” variety. In a health question, 15 Bear + 7 Snake could represent a digestive issue. If 21 Mountain is close by, it could be constipation.

In general, however, 7 Snake symbolizes deceit, betrayal, and complications, particularly in a relationship reading. With Queen of Clubs as the playing card inset, it also is one of the person cards, symbolizing a woman who may or may not be older than the querent and who may be devious or mysterious in some manner. As a woman, 7 Snake often wears glasses or contact lenses. 7 Snake can represent a woman with psychic abilities. It may also represent the partner in a lesbian relationship, or the “Other Woman” in a love triangle.

The following example shows how 7 Snake may play out in a reading:

A female querent wanted some insight on a male co-worker who’d recently joined the company where she worked. She found the man attractive and wondered if a possible romantic relationship could develop between them. He appeared to be “footloose and fancy free,” didn’t wear a wedding band, and she hadn’t heard any gossip that he was already involved in another relationship. They worked together in the same department and as far as she could tell, had plenty in common. She could already imagine herself in bed with him, but before she went any further, she wanted some reassurance he was as “available” as he appeared to be.

Is Male X romantically available?

The Lenormand cards selected at random for this reading were quite literal: “No, he is not available!”

7 Snake shows deception or complications and 26 Book shows secrets or hidden information. The cards clearly indicate that this man is deceiving (Snake) our querent by hiding (Book) his relationship with another woman (Woman).

She’d do best to steer clear of him…

Lenormand Daily Draw: Mountain, Clouds, Paths, Tree, Child, Book, Coffin

When using Lenormand cards for my daily draw, I often throw a Line of 5, then select the base card (bottom card of the shuffled deck) for clarification or additional information.

This morning, after shuffling while asking the Lenormand cards to show me something that would happen today or something I needed to know, I inadvertently selected six cards for my Line of 5:

21 Mountain - 6 Clouds 22 Paths - 5 Tree - 13 Child - 26 Book - 8 Coffin
21 Mountain – 6 Clouds 22 Paths – 5 Tree – 13 Child – 26 Book – 8 Coffin

Blaue Eule (Blue Owl) Lenormand (c) 2008 Konigsfurt-Urania

At first, I was unsure of how I wanted to deal with this unexpected situation. Should I disregard the mistakenly drawn 6th card? Use it as the base card showing clarification or additional information (even though I’d already peeked at the bottom card)?

I left it in the line up for several minutes as I contemplated what the cards might be telling me, keeping in mind the base card I had peeked at, 8 Coffin

Basically, I got the sense today would be a day of procrastination (Mountain + Clouds) with no clear focus (Clouds + Paths) and passing weather conditions (Clouds) — it was cloudy and rainy when I pulled my cards — and that maybe I’d go back to bed for a couple hours (8 Coffin as clarification or additional information), bored outta my mind (Tree).

I would probably lay low (Coffin), not much would get done (Mountain + Clouds + Paths), and I’d experience a slow, boring (Tree) day, at least until later in the afternoon when I would leave the house to pick up Grandson #1 (Child) from school (Book).

***************************************

Note: After realizing the first three cards (Mountain + Clouds + Paths) went together, making the 4th card 5 Tree (slow, boring day) the central card of the spread, the reading quickly clarified and I had to “tip my hat” to my subconscious, which surely had orchestrated the selection of six, rather than five, cards.

What Actually Happened:

As the cards had suggested, the day started out slow and boring (Tree) and I didn’t accomplish much of anything (Mountain + Clouds + Paths). Somehow, however, I managed to stay out of bed (Coffin)!

Around lunchtime, the boredom (Tree) ended (Coffin) when I happened to notice a new book I’d purchased but hadn’t gotten around to reading laying on the kitchen table under a pile of paperwork. As I picked it up, I instantly realized Child + Book in the morning draw was completely literal: new (Child) book (Book). Also, as planned, I picked up my grandson (Child) from school (Book) later in the day, so the last two cards of what was supposed to be a five card draw wound up pulling double duty.

Lenormand Cards Comment on the New Babies: Birds, Paths, Tree, Book, Key, Anchor

This morning I was wondering how the newly born little twin girls were doing and pulled the following cards:

12 Birds - 22 Paths - 5 Tree - 26 Book - 33 Key - 35 Anchor
12 Birds – 22 Paths – 5 Tree – 26 Book – 33 Key – 35 Anchor

Blaue Eule (Blue Owl) Lenormand (c) 2008 Konigsfurt-Urania

12 Birds + 22 Crossroads, both carrying the connotation of “2” refers to the twins. 5 Tree is their health and 5 Tree + 26 Book indicates tests and/or examinations. 33 Key as the final card in the Line of 5 lends a positive, successful vibe, indicating the tests showed all is well with the baby girls.

35 Anchor, as the card providing clarification and/or additional information, along with 5 Tree, further confirms stable health and strong immune systems.

To confirm my interpretation of the Lenormand card message, I texted my older daughter (who had visited the Mom and babies yesterday) and asked about the test results. She replied the tests were good, all was well, and the babies were perfectly healthy.

So nice to get the good news!

Lenormand Cards Discuss a Book: Snake, Lilies, Book, Whip, Scythe, Paths

When I throw cards for my daily draw, I usually just ask for a heads-up on how my day will go. This morning, however, I had an exact question.

There is a book I want to purchase. Yesterday I went online and discovered this particular book would take two to three weeks to ship. I didn’t want to wait that long, so I thought maybe I would check out the local Barnes & Noble and get the book there. As it turned out, schedule conflicts interfered and I never made it to the store. So this morning, I asked the cards if the book I wanted would be available at the bookstore.

I decided to use the Mystical Lenormand deck and I energetically charged 26 Book while shuffling the cards. After finding that card in the deck, I chose the two cards preceding and following it to complete my draw. As usual, I also pulled the base card (bottom card of the deck) for additional information.

Here’s what I got:

7 Snake - 30 Lilies - 26 Book - 11 Whip - 10 Scythe - 22 Paths
7 Snake – 30 Lilies – 26 Book – 11 Whip – 10 Scythe – 22 Paths

Mystical Lenormand (c) 2005, 2007 – AGM-Muller

The cards described the situation — and the book — perfectly. The reason I asked the question was because I considered the long delivery time (Lilies) had I ordered the book online yesterday as planned problematic (Snake). The Line of 5 went on to show that the book (Book) concerns the termination/ cancellation/ elimination (Scythe) of sex/ sexual (Whip) hormones.

As I considered the cards, I further realized that 7 Snake + 30 Lilies could be indicating an aging problem — likely about females since Snake can indicate an older woman — due to termination/ cancellation/ elimination (Scythe) of sexual (Whip) hormones.

I was amazed at how accurately the Lenormand cards described the book, which is about managing and naturally restoring the loss of female hormones experienced after menopause through the use of topical bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

22 Paths as the base card suggested that since Barnes & Noble was only a short jaunt from my house, why not take a ride and find out if the book I’m looking for is there?

Seeing 10 Scythe as the last card in the Line of 5 felt confusing. I wasn’t sure if Scythe was indicating a “harvest,” and that yes, the book would be in stock, or if it meant the book had been “cut” from the inventory. I’ll have my answer later today and will update this post.

Blessings,

Mary Hawkins

UPDATE:  My local bookstore did not have the book I want in stock, confirming the Scythe’s traditional (negative) meaning of a cutting or elimination.

All was not lost, however. I was able to put the book on order at the same price I could have gotten it for online, with delivery promised within five to seven days and no shipping costs!

So, as a card giving clarification or additional information, perhaps 22 Paths was also indicating that an alternative route/ direction to getting the book I desired was available.

Lenormand Cards Answers Question about Honesty

This morning, randomly, I started thinking about the recent rash of TV commercials that start with the word “honestly” and how much they annoy me.

“Honestly? Who can say they don’t want to be tan?” (Kardashians tanning commercial)

“Honestly? I’m a little old fashioned. I love chalk and erasers…” (Microsoft Surface commercial)

Honestly?! Ask me how fast I can press the mute button…

Then I got to thinking. Why does the word “honestly” annoy me so much? Could it be because sometimes I’m not completely honest with myself, embarrassing as that might be to admit? It then occurred to me that maybe the Lenormand cards could give good insight into what we might have to gain if we were willing to be brutally honest with ourselves.

Here’s a phrasing you might use if you want to give this approach a try:

If I were being honest with myself about [situation/ circumstance/ issue], I would realize .

For example, say you were having a relationship issue. You could ask:

If I were being honest with myself about my relationship with X, I would realize …

Or a job situation:

If I were being honest with myself about the current dynamics at my workplace, I would realize…

If you’re willing to drop your defenses and really look at yourself, you could use this basic wording for insight on how you might be shooting yourself in the foot or hiding your head in the sand in just about any situation/ circumstance or issue that’s causing you concern. Of course, it goes without saying, if you really don’t want to know the answer, don’t ask the question…

On that note, here’s a personal example:

I decided to use the honesty phrasing in a Line of 5 Lenormand layout where the situation/ circumstance/ issue would be my own card reading abilities.

If I were being honest with myself about my own card reading abilities, I would realize…

25 Ring - 32 Moon - 06 Clouds - 21 Mountain - 19 Tower - 22 Paths
25 Ring – 32 Moon – 06 Clouds – 21 Mountain – 19 Tower – 22 Paths

Blaue Eule (Blue Owl) (c) 2008 Konigsfurt – Urania

I immediately see my commitment (Ring + Moon) to Lenormand. I also see confusion (Clouds) that’s blocking (Mountain) my progress (Tower) or clouding (Clouds) my judgement (Tower).

If I look at the clarification card* in relation to the central card of the spread, it’s easy to see I’m confused (Clouds) over which path (Paths) to take/ school to go with, and that my tendency to mix meanings from the different schools is holding me up (Mountain) and clouding (Clouds) my judgement (Tower).

*Clarification cards are a tarot reading technique, not a Lenormand reading technique. Some Lenormand experts teach that using a base card (bottom card of the deck) or another clarification card in a Lenormand reading is simply not necessary. Others take a harsher viewpoint, stating it pollutes the integrity of the reading.

I disagree. I often use the base card as a clarification card in a Lenormand Line of 5, and it usually provides useful insights regarding the reading.

You might want to try the technique for yourself and determine whether it works for you.

I’ve been working with Lenormand cards for almost six years now, and my “hit rate” is not as high as I’d like it to be. If I’m going to be honest with myself, I’ll admit I tend to cherry pick meanings from the various Lenormand schools, using meanings that suit my purposes at the time of the reading.

The cards in this “Honesty Spread” made it clear: if I were being honest with myself, I’d realize that choosing one particular Lenormand approach and sticking with it would improve my accuracy — at least for now. I could always make a different decision later on, should circumstances warrant.
